Instructions for using the Asynchronous AppleTalk™ desk accessory and the Intermail™ demonstration User package for calling in to the Sand Hill reactor:
1. Download the Intermail™ demonstration package found on Compuserve™. Follow the intructions included to configure a system disk to be an Intermail User. Please use the latest version of the Mac system software.
2. Use a desk accessory mover program to install the Async AppleTalk DA into the system file of the Intermail disk.
3. Reboot your Mac with this new disk. You should see the Intermail User sign-on at the Welcome to Macintosh greeting.
4. Pull down the Async AppleTalk DA and select 'HANG UP'. Respond to the prompt that this will shut down AppleTalk - 'OK'.
5. Now use a terminal program or DA to connect to your modem via the PRINTER port and instruct the modem to dial 1-305-349-5710. (omit area code if you're local...)
6. On connecting, get out of your terminal program or DA.
7. Pull down the Async AppleTalk DA again and select 1200 or 2400 baud and then 'START' You should see a message 'Asynch AppleTalk installed' within 5 to 10 seconds. If not, click away the alert dialog, and retry by telling the DA to hang up again (not the modem) and then start.... It usually connects readily.
8. Now, pull down the Intermail™ DA and sign in as 'Visitor' (without quotes). You should receive promptly a dialog that you have mail. This will be the most current info on the reactor and asynchronous AppleTalk.
9. You may address comments or criticism to Michael, and may even find others already signed on regardless of the time of day. We use this system to connect the four buildings that provide shelter and workspace in our very secluded hide-away.
10. Should you have trouble with the procedure, please call us at Sand Hill over our voice line 305-349-5960.
